Current and Prior Year Tax Assistance

VITA volunteers in Phoenix are ready to help you with free Federal and Arizona State tax preparation for the current and previous tax years. This service is intended to help people with basic tax returns, particularly those people with low or limited income, those who are non-English speaking, and those with disabilities.

Volunteers will also help with free tax preparation for the Economic Stimulus Package payments offered this year.

Those seeking assistance should bring all of the following:

  • Social Security cards and/or ITIN cards for everyone listed on the returns. Actual cards must be shown. Copies of cards or simply submitting the card numbers will not be accepted!
  • Photo ID for the primary filer and/or spouse
  • All documents showing income earned for the appropriate tax year(s). Documents include W-2 forms, 1099 forms, 1099-R forms, Social Security benefits statements, etc.
  • Information for all other income during the appropriate tax year(s)
  • Information for all deductions and/or credits during the appropriate tax year(s)
  • Any information received from the Internal Revenue Service or Arizona Department of Revenue

For those who are filing as Married filing joint returns, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
